HARARE, Zimbabwe - The United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe Charles Ray has added his voice on the current status quo of teachers who are currently at loggerheads with the government about salary increments.
Speaking on the side-lines of awarding grants to Zimbabwean schools and orphans, Ambassador Ray said it was disheartening to note that
governments all over the world neglect teachers whom they leave to nurture children.

“It is a concern that the government is neglecting teachers, but it is a trend the world over even in United States, teachers are least paid yet education is one of the corner stone of the economy. The government should be sincere in dealing with the teachers,” said Ray.
Ambassador Ray said the United States Government was committed in assisting the education sector through awarding of grants to poor schools.
“Since 1980 we have assisted community based developments and we have awarded approximately $3 million through 300 grants to groups in all 10 provinces. This year the grants will help more than 3000 children,” said Ray.
Ray's comments comes amid continued reports that civil servants and the government are embroiled in a bitter wrangle over salary
