ANC youth to appeal Julius Malema's ouster
JOHANNESBURG (AP) — The African National Congress Youth League says it will appeal the expulsion of its leader ordered by the governing party's disciplinary committee.
The committee announced last week that Julius Malema was being expelled for sowing disunity and failing to show remorse or willingness to accept party discipline. The committee added that as a consequence of his expulsion, his membership and presidency of the Youth League also would end.
Malema appeared Monday at a news conference at party headquarters alongside lower-ranking league officials. He made no comment as other officials said his expulsion will be appealed.
Several league officials pledged their loyalty to Malema, and said they would challenge his dismissal as youth leader by their parent body.
